My small family medical clinic is run by myself and another general practitioner. We serve our community proudly seven days a week.
We are located a good two-hour drive from the hospital in town, which also supports us. Whenever a patient needed a blood test we were forced to send them with requisition in hand to that distant hospital.
Our receptionist, Debbie, came up with a brilliant suggestion one day on how we could improve the level of our service and her career all with one decision. She said that she had looked into Phlebotomy Training and was interested in pursuing it. After completion she could still work here but instead of doing her regular receptionist duties she would be drawing blood.
Her only concern was the program fees and asked if we would be willing to compensate her for them, which we readily agreed to. Now Debbie is even happier working for us and we instantly have raised the quality of service provided at our clinic.
